Two accused in transport worker Limon Miah murder case were killed in a reported shootout with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Dhap area of Rangpur city in the early hours of Thursday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Manik and Sumon.
Sources at the RAB-13 headquarters said on a tip-off, a team of the elite force challenged a gang of alleged criminals, including Manik and Sumon, while they were gossiping inside a restaurant in the area at about 2:30 am.
Sensing the presence of the elite force, the gang members opened fire to the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.
During the gunfight, Manik and Sumon received severe bullet injuries while their other associates managed to flee.
They were rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where on-duty doctors declared them dead at about 3:30 am.
Two RAB members were also injured in the gunfight.
RAB also recovered two foreign-made revolvers, two knives and three bullets from the scene.
