Two AL leaders found dead in Laxmipur

LAXMIPUR, May 22 (UNB): Police recovered the bodies of two local Awami League leaders from different places in Raipur and Sadar upazilas of the district early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, president of Charshahi union unit of Awami League and resident of Rampur village of Sadar upazila, and Abdul Mazid, general secretary of the ward unit of AL in Charpata union of Raipur upazila.
In Sadar upazila, AL leader Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan was hacked by miscreants in Rampur village of the upazila early Thursday morning.
Anjumara Begum, wife of slain Abdul Mannan, said criminals had been making death threat to her husband over mobile phone for 15 days. Some unidentified people called him Wednesday midnight. He then went out.
As he did not return home even after a long time, the family members began searching for him and at one stage spotted the hacked body of him in front of the house.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Iqbal Hossain confirmed the incident.
On the other hand, the body of another AL leader Abdul Mazid was found at Charpata in Raipur upazila Thursday morning.
Officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station Manjurul Haque Akanda said the local people had found the body of Mazid in the area and informed police.
Later, the law enforcers had recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately.
