Two arrested with spywares at HSIA

FE REPORT | Saturday, 13 December 2025

The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has arrested two individuals with a large quantity of spywares at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital.
Based on a tip-off, Shaharun Ali, 38, and Md Iqbal Hossain Jibon, 35, were detained from the outer area of the airport on Friday.
They were found in possession of electronic spywares and other equipment used for cheating in recruitment and admission examinations, according to a press release.
After being detained, the duo were taken to the airport armed police office, where officers recovered 76 digital electronic spywares, 50 earpieces, three laptops, and six mobile phones from their possessions.
During interrogation, police learned that Shaharun had brought the devices from China, where he travelled as a regular passenger.
Jibon had been waiting at the Dhaka airport, and the two were preparing to leave just before they were apprehended.
Sources say each set of the spywares includes a credit card-shaped device, an invisible earpiece, and a transparent extraction thread.
Because the main device closely resembles a credit card, it is difficult to detect it.
A case was filed against the two with the Airport Police Station on Friday.
"These devices are prohibited imports, and there is evidence that they have been used by unscrupulous individuals to commit fraud in recruitment and admission tests," said Police Superintendent Mohammad Mozammel Haque, operational commander of the Airport APBn.
"We are carrying out regular operations to prevent any dishonest activities," added the official.
