Two Bangladeshis in WorldSkills contest

Bangladesh, for the first time, is going to participate in the WorldSkills Competition 2019, slated for August 22-27 in Kazan, Russia.
The National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) under the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has completed all necessary preparations to this end.
Two contestants from Bangladesh are Tanjim Tabassum Islam and Nafisa Sadaf Achol, according to a press release.
Tabassum will contest the global skills competition from confectionery and patisserie trade and Achol from fashion designing. They were selected through the nationwide Rising Star Competition last year.
NSDA executive chairman Md Faruque Hossain said this at a press briefing at NSDA office on Wednesday.
He shared the government's preparations for contesting the world skills competition, saying that participating in such a global competition is a pride for the nation.
PMO secretary Sajjadul Hassan spoke as the chief guest as the event where NSDA members, senior officials, representatives from different ISCs, contestants, technical experts were present.
Mr Hassan said there is no alternate to transforming country's large workforce into skilled manpower in order to enhancing job scopes for them as well as enabling for self-employment.
Referring to the slogan 'Power of Youths; Bangladesh's Growth', he said the government has pledged to transform the nation's youth into skilled manpower and create jobs for them.
The two contestants would be able to perform their best at Kazan competition and necessary supports are being provided to them.
Hotel Radisson, InterContinental Dhaka and Coopers are providing support for grooming the contestants in Confectionery and Patisserie, BGMEA for fashion designing and Industry Skills Councils are providing all-out support.
NSDA is coordinating the country's efforts to turn the large local youth population into skilled manpower and ensure the standard of the skills provided to them, Mr Hassan said.
Through this competition in Kazan, the Bangladeshi participants would be able to significantly focus the standards of their skills globally.
Mr Hossain of NSDA said Bangladesh is going to participate in the global competition as the 79th member of the WorldSkills International.
