Two BCL men get 10 years

SYLHET, Nov 24 (UNB): Two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of the Awami League, were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment here Thursday in an arms case.
A tribunal sentenced the two BCL cadres -Aftab Hossain, son of Abul Hossain of west Pirmahalla and Suman Talukder, son of Dr Soumendra Talukder of Haldarpara area in the town.
The tribunal also fined them Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment (RI). Of them, Suman was tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Aftab and Suman along with a double barrelled gun on August 19, 2002. Later, a case was filed against them with South Surma police station under the Arms Act.
After examining the records and witnesses, Tribunal Judge Ferdous Ahmed handed down the verdict.
