DINAJPUR, Nov 28 (Agencies): Two members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were killed as a truck crashed into their motorcycle in Fulbari Upazila here Friday.
The deceased were identified Al Amin (20), son of Golam Mostafa of Laxmipur, and Rubel (22), son of Abdul Khaleque of Sirajganj. They were posted at the Dinajpur BGB Battalion-29.
The truck hit the bike of the two border guards at Rajarampur on the Dinajpur-Dhaka highway around 1:30pm, leaving them dead on the spot, said Lt Col Zahidur Rashid, commanding officer of the battalion.
Meanwhile, locals were locked into a clash with the BGB men when they went to the Rajarampur area to arrest the truck driver and his helper.
On information that the truck driver along with his helper hid in the area, a BGB team launched a drive there to arrest them.
However, the locals engaged in a clash with the paramilitary force members who then lobbed truncheons on them.
The unruly mob pelted the BGB men with brick chips, vandalised their vehicle and took away a magazine.
Locals alleged that the BGB members beat some of them asking them to hand over the truck driver and the helper to them.
When they told them that they knew nothing in this regard, the border guards launched attacks on several shops and vandalised those, they said, claiming that nine people were also injured in the BGB action.  Fulbari OC Rezaul Islam said the accident took place in front of the Upazila's Shanta-Kanta Rice Mill on the Dinajpur-Fulbari Highway.
The OC said quoting other BGB members that a BGB team recovered Phensidyl along with a motorcycle in a raid at the district's Nawabganj Upazila.
Amin and Rubel were on their way back with the recovered bike when they were hit by a truck that came in from the opposite direction. A BGB pick-up that was following the riders rushed them to the Fulbari Upazila Health Complex where the doctors pronounced them dead.
