Two closed jute mills to be reopened this month

The government has taken initiatives to reopen the country's two closed state-owned jute mills within this month in a bid to boost the country's jute goods production, official sources said.
People's Jute Mill, Khulna and Quaomi Jute Mill, Sirajganj are among the closed mills that are under processes of reopening shortly.
Infrastructure development and recruitment process of these two closed mills have already been completed.
A senior official of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) told the FE Sunday that the present government had taken many urgent steps for reopening closed mills from where the government would be able to earn good amounts by exporting jute-made items.
The proposed budget for reopening these jute mills are nearly Tk 680 million for People's Jute Mill and Tk 360 million for Quaomi Jute Mill.
Another two closed jute mills -- M M Jute Mills and R R Jute Mills -- in Chittagong are likely to be reopened within two months, a senior official told the FE.
The government has also a plan to reopen Adamji Jute Mill and at first one unit of Adamji among its five units will be reopened at a cost of nearly Tk 30 million.
Now the government is purchasing jute at Tk 2000 per maund and the purchasing price will be higher in future for the benefit of the farmers.
If the government could reopen all the closed jute mills, gross domestic product (GDP) of the country would increase by nearly 2.0 per cent, officials told the FE.
A senior official of BJMC said the present government is trying its best to increase the country's foreign exchange earning by exporting jute goods.
