Two committees formed to inspect bourses

FE REPORT | Thursday, 22 August 2024

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on Wednesday formed two separate committees to look into the affairs of the bourses.
The four-member committees have been asked to submit a report to the commission within 20 working days.
Preferring anonymity, a senior BSEC official said the inquiry committees would look into overall activities, including issues of compliance of both the stock exchanges.
Earlier, an independent director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) was found to have conducted share trading in breach of rules.
As part of the government's move to overhaul the stock exchanges, the securities regulator on Tuesday asked the independent directors of both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges to resign.
Meanwhile, DSE Chairman Hafiz Md Hasan Babu on Monday resigned for personal reasons.
Following a change in the political regime, the DSE Brokers Association recently demanded the resignation of the DSE board members.
