Two cops withdrawn over ex-ACC official's death in custody

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 05: Chattogram Metropoli-tan Police (CMP) has withdrawn two sub-inspectors (SIs) in connection with the death of former Assistant Director of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Sayed Mohammed Shahidullah in police custody.
The SIs-Md Yousuf Ali and ATM Shohel Rana-who had arrested Sayed Mohammed Shahidullah from his house in Bahaddar Hat in the port city on the basis of an arrest warrant in a Complaint Registered Case and brought him to the Chandgaon police station.
The duo was attached to the Chattogram district police line after their suspension following an order signed by MA Masud, additional commissioner (admin and finance) of the CMP, on Thursday.
Sayed Mohammed Shahidullah died in the custody of Chandgaon police on Wednesday (October 4).
Meanwhile, the CMP has formed a three-member probe committee led by the deputy commissioner of its detective branch (DB) to investigate the death of Sayed Mohammed Shahidullah.
The rest two members of the committee include an additional commissioner and an assistant commissioner of the CMP.
The committee will submit its report in this regard within next three working days.
Meanwhile, Nafij Shahid, son of the deceased, alleged that some plainclothesmen had picked up his father Sayed Mohammed Shahidullah from their house at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday.
"My father is attacked with heart disease. The plainclothesmen who introduced themselves as policemen did not mention the reason for taking him. But they said that they arrested my father," he said.
