Two court stenographers to be quizzed

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) will quiz two court stenographers on Thursday in connection with the allegation of illegal wealth accumulation by former judge Motahar Hossain. The Commission has recently sent letters, signed by ACC deputy director and inquiry officer Harunur Rashid, to the stenographers asking them to be present at the ACC head office here at 10 am on Thursday, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said. The stenographers are M Abul Hasan of Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 and M Nurul Islam of Special Judge Court-3. According to the allegation received by the Commission, former special judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Court Motahar Hossain accumulated huge movable and immovable wealth illegally and laundered money abroad when he was a judge. On November 17 last, Judge Motahar Hossain acquitted Tarique Rahman, elder son of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, in a money-laundering case involving Tk 20.41 crore. He went on retirement on December 30, 2013, according to a news agency.
