Two DAP fertiliser factories constructed in Ctg

Friday, 22 June 2007

The construction of two di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser factories in Chittagong was completed recently at a cost of Taka 10.30 billion (1,030 crore) to meet the growing demand of the phosphatic fertilisers in the country, reports BSS.
The total production capacity of the two fertiliser factories, set up under Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), is 5,28,000 tonnes, according to a press release of the Industries Ministry.
As the annual demand of DAP fertilisers is 2,50,000 tonnes, the country will not need any import of the fertilisers from 2007-08 fiscal year. Rather, it will be possible to export DAP fertilisers after meeting the local demand, when the two factories will go into full operation.
These were disclosed at a meeting to evaluate the progress of the implementation of the projects of Industries Ministry under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) in 2006-07 fiscal. Industries Adviser Geeti Ara Safiya Chowdhury presided over the meeting, held in the ministry.
The meeting was also informed that the total allocation for 17 projects of the Industries Ministry as well as the corporations and agencies under it in the revised ADP of the current fiscal is Taka 815.4 million (81.54 crore). The rate of expenditure until May 7 in GOB sector is 73 per cent, said the release.
It was told that work on the project for setting up, modernisation and development of BSTI regional offices is going on speedily in Sylhet and Barishal divisions. The construction of the regional offices will be completed by 2009.
Industries Secretary M Nurul Amin, senior officials of the ministry and heads of different corporations and agencies, and project directors were also present in the meeting.
