Two DU teachers remanded again

Wednesday, 29 August 2007

A Dhaka court Thursday placed two Dhaka University professors Anwar Hossain and Harun-or-Rashid on another spell of four-day remand in a separate case. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court for Dhaka issued the remand order, when the DU teachers were taken to court by Shahbagh police after four days of interrogation in custody. The police sought a further 10-day remand for questioning in a separate case of breaching emergency powers rules, but the court approved only four days. The two professors alleged in the court of judge M Salehuddin that they had been tortured mentally—confined in an unknown location.
