Two ex-DMCH docs flee court on rejection of bail

Two former physicians of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) fled from a Dhaka Court Wednesday after their bail petitions were rejected, reports UNB.
The incident took place in the court of Dhaka Senior Special Judge Zahrul Haque immediately after he had rejected the bail petitions of the two physicians in a corruption case.
Court sources said that seven former officials of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, including Senior Lecturer of Practical Pharmacy Dr Moshiur Rahman and Assistant Prof Dr Atiar Rahman, appeared before the court of Dhaka Senior Special Judge Zahrul Haque in the morning.
Five other DMCH former officials accused in the case are DMCH director Brig Gen (retd) Bazle Qadir, assistant director Dr Md Faizullah, accounts officer Md Nazmul Islam and cashier Md Nazmul Islam, and Habibur Rahman, owner of Habib Surgical.
All the seven accused appeared before the court seeking bail in an corruption case, which was filed with Shahbagh police station on 16 November 2011.
Defence lawyer Dulal Mitra filed the bail petition for the seven accused. After hearing, the court ordered to send them to jail rejecting the bail petition.
Hearing the court's order, Dr Moshiur Rahman and Dr Atiar Rahman fled the court while others were sent to the Dhaka Central jail.
The court issued a show cause letter to Advocate Dulal Mitra and the court police in connection with the escape of two accused.
Assistant director of Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Shahbagh police station accusing the seven former DMCH officials for embezzling Tk 23.3 million in collusion with each other in purchasing medical instruments in fiscal 2009-10.
After investigation, Investigation Officer and ACC assistant director Fazlul Haque submitted charge sheet against the accused in the CMM court on 15 May this year.
Later, the CMM court transferred the case to Dhaka Senior Special Judge court.
