Two extortionists caught in city

Two armed extortionists were caught while they were running away after shooting the owner of a medical diagnostic centre at North Kafrul in the city Tuesday midnight, police said.
SI of Kafrul police station Mostafizur Rahman told the FE that four to five extortionists intercepted Pappu, owner of Rupa Diagnosis Centre at Kachukhet Bazar, at an area adjacent to Rojonigondha Super Market while he was returning home at about 11:30pm.
The gang shot Pappu and tried to leave the place, leaving him fatally wounded.
Hearing gunshots, a police petrol team, led by SI Mostafiz, chased the gang and locked in a gunfight, as the criminals sprayed bullets on the law-enforcers sensing danger. Pappu was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. The injured criminals were admitted to Orthopedic Hospital.
One revolver and five rounds of bullet were recovered from the spot.
