Two foreign ships impounded at Mongla port

KHULNA, Oct 21: Two foreign ships loaded with fertilisers were impounded at Mongla port. The High Court ordered to impound the ships in a transaction case filed by traders of Chittagong Port, Mongla Port sources said.
Normal activities of the port is being hampered due to ships impounded in the anchorage for long time. Port users allege that a section of people was trying to destroy the image of the port by impounding foreign ship.
According to case history Harbour Master of the port Commander M Akteruzzaman said that Friends Multi Trade Shipping Company of Chittagong supplied 40 drums of lubricant oil, 80 metric tonnes diesel and 200 metric tonnes furnace oil to a foreign ship MV Milimus as their requirements on April 21. But the shipping authority did not pay their dues. Later the supplier filed a case on October-13 and the court ordered to impound the ship. Another case was filed against a foreign ship MV Asian Properties before the court on the same reason and the court directed to impound the ship.
It may be mentioned that MV Milimus and MV Asian Properties anchored at Mongla port loading fertiliser on October 10 and October 16 respectively.
Mongla Port Chairman Commodore H R Bhuyan NDC PSC BN said that there is no connection between these cases. The two ships were impounded through court order filed by two businessmen of Chittagong.
