Two friends drown as boat capsizes in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, July 06 (BSS): Two friends drowned and another was injured when a boat capsized in Baral river at Potazia Charmatha area under Shahjadpur upazila of the district today.
The deceased were identified as Sajal, 16, son of Shah Alam of Dariapur area of Shahzadpur upazila town, and Tanmoy, 18, son of Touhid of the same area of the upazila.
According to the locals, the boat carrying nine people, including Sajal and Tanmoy, suddenly sank when it reached the area as they were crossing Baral river around 12:45 pm, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahjadpur Police Station Sabuj Rana said.
Seven people managed to swim ashore. But Sajal and Tanmoy drowned as they could not swim.
Locals rescued them and took them to the Potazia Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
The bodies were handed over to their relatives, the OC added.
