Two grenades recovered in city

The police in separate drives Tuesday-Wednesday recovered two grenades from a graveyard near Al Hera Mosque in the city's Dhanmondi area, reports UNB.
The grenades were made in the Ordnance Factory in Gazipur, Atiqul Islam, DC of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna zone, told newsmen at a press briefing at Shahbagh police station Wednesday.
"None was arrested in connection with the seizure of the two grenades," the DC said.
"One grenade was found at the graveyard at 7:30pm Tuesday in an abandoned condition," he said. The law enforcers recovered another grenade abandoned at the same graveyard at about 11:30am Wednesday.
In the meantime, police guards caught 82 pickpockets along with 36 stolen mobile-phone sets during the Bengali New Year celebrations held amid tight security in the city Tuesday.
Of the cell-phone sets, 26 were returned to respective owners.
Besides, 37 children who went missing during the Pahela Baishakh celebrations were found out by patrols and later 36 of them were handed over to their guardians while one disabled child remained under police custody.
