Two Hajj packages announced for next year

FE REPORT | Friday, 3 November 2023

The government has announced two packages for people who want to perform the Hajj pilgrimage next year. The packages were announced seven months in advance to give people time to prepare.
State Minister for Religious Affairs Faridul Haque Khan announced the packages at a press conference on Thursday. He said the general package will cost Tk 578,840, while the special package will cost Tk 936,320.
The general package is cheaper than the package offered last year, which cost Tk 671,290 per person.
The Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAB) will announce its Hajj packages based on the government's rates.
State Minister Faridul Haque said, "The Hajj packages have been announced in advance so that people can take preparation. This year, there are scopes for people with a limited budget to perform Hajj at a cheaper rate."
The state minister said the packages were decided at a meeting with the executive committee on Hajj management.
Next year, some 127,198 pilgrims from Bangladesh will be able to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. Of them, 10,198 will be able to do so under government arrangements, while the remaining will travel through private agencies.
Religious Affairs Secretary M A Hamid Jamaddar said they would start working on Hajj earlier as it involves many formalities.
President of the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) M Shahadat Hossain Taslim urged the government to fix airfare through an independent committee.
He said that HAAB will announce their Hajj packages (under private management) shortly, in line with the government packages.
Hajj will be observed on 16 June 2024, subject to moonsighting.
