Two held as Tk 37m 'vanishes' from Dhaka Bank vault

Over Tk 37 million has gone missing from Bangshal branch's vault of Dhaka Bank on Thursday night, officials and police confirmed.
In connection with the money heist, police arrested two of the branch officials - senior officer and cash-in-charge Rifatul Haque and Manager (operations) Amran Ahmed for their alleged involvement with the looting.
A senior official of Dhaka Bank Limited told the FE that an internal audit team of the bank made a surprise visit to the Bangshal branch on Thursday night and found the money of Tk 37.76 million missing from its vault.
The bank authority later filed a case against them and handed over the duo to the local police station as part of the legal action taken under the banking rules and regulations.
Apart from the law enforcers, they are also investing internally to detect more people if involved in the financial crime, according to the bank officer.
He also informed that the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) will take over the complaint and go for further investigation.
When contacted, duty officer of the police station Masud Rana said they produced the arrested persons before a court from where they were sent to the jail.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masud-ur-Rahman passed the order after rejecting their bail petition.
