Two pedestrians were injured in a gunfight between police and Jubo League activists who tried to snatch away two of their colleagues from police custody at Mohammadpur in the city Thursday, police said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station Bhuiyan Mahbub Hasan told the FE that they arrested two persons Shafiq and Akhter, who identified themselves as Jubo League leaders of DCC ward-43 unit, on charges of extortion in the morning from the area.
Hearing the news, their fellow partymen came to the police station and forcibly tried to take them away from police custody at about 12:30pm.
At one stage, the Jubo League activists opened fire and the police retaliated causing injury to two pedestrians.
The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. However, their identity could not be known immediately.
