Two medical expos kick off in city

Two four-day international exhibitions on medical, pharmaceutical and healthcare products and services kicked off at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city Wednesday.
Health Minister AFM Ruhul Haque inaugurated as the chief guest the '3rd Meditex Bangladesh 2010 International Expo' and the '2nd Pharma Bangladesh 2010 Expo' running simultaneously at the same venue. Speaking on the occasion, the health minister said modern medical, pharmaceutical and healthcare facilities should be accessible not only to the urban but also to the rural community.
"Our local pharmaceutical industry is now a growing sector," he said adding that the industry now exports drugs to nearly 70 countries.
The Bangladesh office of the US-based Conference and Exhibition Management Services (CEMS) in cooperation with Navana Furniture has organised the exhibitions. Bangladesh Medical Association Secretary General Sharfuddin Ahmed in his speech at the function said the government should cut import of surgical equipment to boost the local healthcare sector. Mr Saiful Islam, vice chairman of Navana Group, was also present.
