SADARGHAT TRAWLER CAPSIZE

Two missing people found alive

FE REPORT | Monday, 20 July 2026

Two people who went missing after a trawler sank in the Buriganga River following a collision with a launch at Shyambazar Ghat in the capital's Sadarghat area were later found alive.
Warehouse Inspector of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters media cell Anwarul Islam said that the Cumilla-bound trawler was hit by the Sundarban-12 launch around 9:30 am on Sunday.
He said that two people onboard the trawler were initially reported missing, prompting a rescue operation by a unit from the Sadarghat River Fire Service Station, which reached the scene around 9:50 am.
The rescue operation was later called off after the trawler owner informed the fire service that the two had safely swum across the river and returned home.
Mr Anwarul said the information was provided by the trawler owner, who confirmed that the missing passengers survived the accident.
