Two new peaking power plants with a total capacity of 390 megawatts are likely to come into operation by early next year to partly meet the growing peak-hour demand for electricity, reports UNB.
The new plants are 240 MW Siddhirganj and 150 MW Shikalbaha plants.
Power Generation Company of Bangladesh (EGCB), a state-owned public limited company, is implementing the Siddhirganj peaking plant while the state-owned Power Development Board (PDB) the Shikalbaha peaking plant.
PDB Chairman ASM Alamgir Kabir said both the projects are "progressing fast."
He hoped that the first unit (120 MW) of the Siddhirganj plant would be able to start power generation by mid-November while the second one by February 2010.
