Two outlaws killed in Kushtia shootouts

KUSHTIA, Sept 13 (UNB): Two outlawed party leaders were killed in separate encounters with their cohorts and police in Sadar Upazila of the district early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Marfat Biswas (32), regional commander of Gono Bahini (Obaidul group) and son of late Ismat Biswas of Bara Ailchara village in the upazila and Biplob (40), leader of Ganamukti Fauz and son of Dr Tofazzal of Kataikhana area of the district town.
Acting on a secret information, the police conducted a drive at about 3:45 am while a gang of extremists led by Marfat, were holding a clandestine meeting near Bara Ailchara Steel Bridge.
Sensing their presence the underground extremists opened fire on them forcing the law enforcers to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage Marfat was caught the line of fire and died on the spot while his accomplices managed to flee the spot.
The police also recovered one shutter-gun and four rounds of bullet from the spot. Marfat was wanted in eight murder and other criminal cases, the police said.
In another incident, Biplob was killed in a shootout between his accomplices and the police at Housing Chatagara area at about 5:15 am.
The law enforcers recovered two LGs and nine rounds of bullet from the spot.
With this, a total of 19 suspected criminals were killed in shootouts in Kushtia in last three weeks, sources said.
