Two robbers die in Khulna shootout, claim police

Two persons died in a 'shootout' in Khulna early on Saturday. The victims have been identified as 'Karimul', 40, and 'Hobi', 42, from Khulna's Dumuria Upazila. Police claim they were members of a gang of robbers. Khulna's Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) SM Shafiullah said that the incident happened at Deluti Union of Paikgachha Upazila. Six firearms and 29 rounds of ammunitions were recovered from the spot while 13 people were detained, said the police official. "A group of robbers abducted one Prasant Kumar Dhali from Jhhilbuniya village and were fleeing by a speedboat on the Shibsha River when the police and locals chased them." According to ASP Shafiullah, the robbers jumped off from the speedboat at a sandbar when it broke down. The shootout erupted when the robbers fired to disperse the locals and police behind them, according to bdnews24.com.
