Two snatchers hurt in gunfights with police in city

Two snatchers were injured in separate gunfights with policemen at Badda and Jatrabari in the city Thursday, police said.
A patrol team from Jatrabari police station chased a fleeing armed gang, who snatched valuables at gun point, and locked in a gunfight at a place near to Doyaganj Rail Bridge at about 12:30am.
The police managed to apprehend Abdus Salam, 22, a member of the gang, sub-inspector of Jatrabari police station Sirajul Islam, who was the member of the patrol team, told the FE.
He said associates of Salam, who was injured in the gunfight, managed to escape.
"It's very difficult for police to arrest such armed snatchers," he said.
Police recovered Tk 11,000, one snatched mobile phone set and a sharp weapon from Salam's possession. Salam was immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
In another incidence, a patrol team from Badda police station encountered another organised gang of armed snatchers in front of the ticket counter of Ekushey Paribahan, a city-bound passenger bus, on Biswa Road in the city at about 7am.
However, police caught two of the gang members after a shooting incidence. Snatchers Hanif and Shanto, who sustained injuries in the battle, were admitted to the DMCH.
Meanwhile, the city police as part of their ongoing special drive arrested 310 people, including a murderer, seven listed criminals, 19 snatchers, 69 drug peddlers, two illegal arms holders and extortionists, in the last 24 hours ending at 6pm Thursday.
