Two teenage boys have drowned in the Kaptai Lake of Rangamati town, reports bdnews24.com.
The two victims are 15-year-old Edison Saha, a tenth grade student from Rangamati Government High School, and Arnob Chowdhury, another student in the same grade at Shah Multipurpose High School.
"The two were brought to the hospital on Friday morning and declared dead after the examinations," said Dr Tisha Chakma of Rangamati Sadar Hospital.
A friend of the two boys - Shibam Das - was critically injured in the incident and sent to Chattogram for advanced treatment. The family said Shibam also studied at Shah Multipurpose High School.
The boys lived in the Art Council Colony and Master Colony in the Tabalchari area.
Abdul Kuddus, a saw mill worker, helped rescue the boys. He said he was working nearby when he heard screams that people were drowning. He rushed to the spot and immediately dove into the water.
"Several others dived in alongside me. I brought the three of them up from the water, one by one, and the people there took them to the hospital."
Amit Saha, Edison's father, said: "My only son died after he went to bathe with his friends. All my dreams are gone. How can I go on living?"
Mohammad Ali, chief of Rangamati Kotwali thana, said: "I have heard about the incident, but I still do not know the details. In such situations, cases of wrongful death are usually filed."
