Two terrorists killed in RAB 'encounter' in Savar
Thursday, 27 August 2009
FE Report
Two associates of the 'Gangchil Bahini' were killed in an 'encounter' with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Aminbazar under Savar in the capital.
The deceased were identified as Akil, 25, and Nayan, 22. Both were wanted in a number of cases, including murders, an officer of Savar police station told the FE.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-4 raided a brickfield, owned by Abu Sayeed, at Salehpur of Aminbazar to arrest members of the notorious gang at about 2:00am while they were planning to commit crimes.
Sensing presence of the law-enforcers, the gangsters opened fire on them forcing the RAB-members to retaliate, resulting a gun-battle that lasted for about 20 minutes. "Both the criminals were caught in the gunfire and died on the spot," a RAB officer said.
The dead bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Two pistols, eight round of bullets, two magazines and a knife were also recovered from the spot.
Eight members of the 'Gangchil Bahini' have so far been killed in 'encounters' at Savar over the past two years, the RAB officer said. Members of the gang had killed two RAB-men at the same brickfield on March 3, 2007.
