Two train sets, bus corridor open on Dhaka-Joydevpur route today
FE REPORT | Sunday, 15 December 2024
Commuters on the Dhaka-Joydevpur route are likely to enjoy improved bus and train services with the launch of two sets of commuter trains and a dedicated bus corridor today (Sunday).
Road transport, bridges and rail adviser Mohammad Fouzul Kabir Khan will inaugurate both services in the presence of officials of both ministries.
Road transport and highways division secretary Mohammad Ehsanul Haque will preside over the inaugural function.
According to officials, the adviser will inaugurate the Joydevpur commuter train at Joydevpur station at 7:00 am.
Later, he will ride the train up to Dhirashram rail station and will head towards Shibbari BRT station by road to inaugurate the BRTC bus service.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) will launch 10 air-conditioned buses from Shibbari to Gulistan through the dedicated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor and Dhaka Elevated Expressway (DEE).
The Bangladesh Railway (BR) will also start the operation of four up-down commuter trains between Dhaka and Joydevpur the same day.
The train will run on the route from 5: 25 am to 1:30 pm.
Dhaka BRT Company Ltd managing director Dr Md Muniruzzaman said the BRTC would operate the AC bus service through the BRT corridor as it would take more time to launch the BRT bus service.
As the BRT has been ready for transportation, the BRTC bus service has been allowed for faster vehicular movement, he told the FE over phone.
Dr Munir, however, said a dedicated BRT service would be launched from Joydevpur to Airport after the arrival of special buses for the BRT corridor.
The BRTC has planned to operate AC buses from Shibbari to Gulistan with stops at Joydevpur, College Gate, Tongi and Airport and the DEE to reach Farmgate without a break.
The first hour's two set trains will be in operation between 5:25 am-6:25 am from Dhaka and 7:10 am-8:25 am from Joydevpur respectively.
On the other hand, the second set will start from Kamalapur station at 11:00 am and Joydevpur station at 12:30 pm respectively to reach destinations in an hour.
The BR has readied the commuter trains by restructuring seven broad-gauge coaches with a provision of 1,050 seating and standing passengers.
One of the coaches will be used for female passengers.
The BRTC buses will be operated on a total of 42.5 kilometres, including the 20.5-km BRT corridor, fixing Tk 140 for entire corridor and Tk 70 up to Airport.
The Dhaka BRT Company will charge nothing for allowing its corridor to use.
