Two UK ENT specialists arrive today

FE Report Renowned ENT (eye, nose and throat) specialists Peter Prinsley, ENT and Cochler implant specialist Jonathon Bridge Osborne of United Kingdom (UK) will arrive in city today (Sunday). The specialists will train up physicians and nurses of SAHIC (Society for Assistance to Hearing Impaired Children) in the capital until November 23. They will share experiences on modern medical technology, provide consultation services free-of-cost to some 100 patients with complicated ear diseases. They will do some complicated operations including cochler implant surgery. SAHIC authorities said the specialists will provide consultancy in SAHIC premises. All of the consultancy and operation will be done free-of-cost. A total of 100 patients with complicated ear problems have been registered in the SAHIC to avail the service of the renowned specialists. SAHIC is a voluntary non-government organisation established in February 1987 for prevention, early detection and rehabilitation of the hearing impaired, specially children in Bangladesh. It is registered with the Department of Social Services and NGO Affairs Bureau, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh in 1989 and 1990 respectively to receive national and foreign donations. SAHIC is the brain child of Prof M. Nurul Amin, an eminent ENT specialist of the country. The aims and objectives of the society was to prevent an early detect hearing impairment, to treat the diseases that may cause hearing impairment and rehabilitation of hearing impaired, specially children. It was conceived with the UNO declaration and WHO resolution passed in the General Assembly of 1986 about the hearing disability and identification of ear infection as the major cause of hearing impairment (about 6% per cent of the total hearing impairment deafness) which are preventable and avoidable.
