Two ‘robbers’ were killed and seven people injured in crude bomb explosions during a robbery at Majhirghat under Sadarghat Police Station in the port city of Chittagong on Wednesday night.
Quoting locals, police said a band of 7-8 armed robbers stormed ‘Shah Corporation’, a business establishment, around 11:30pm and looted Tk 1.6 million (16 lakh).
At one stage, staff of the business firm encircled the ‘robbers’ while they were trying to flee the scene. The alleged robbers then opened fire and blasted crude bombs in their desperate bid to break the cordon, leaving two of their own members dead on the spot and five other people injured.
The rest of the gang members managed to flee with the cash, said officer-in-charge of Sadarghat Police Station Mainul Islam Bhuiyan.
The injured were taken to a local hospital.
