Tuesday, 5 June 2007

ABU DHABI, June 4 (Xinhua): The United Arab Emirates (UAE) vows yesterday to take measures to tighten up implementation of labour laws to protect labourers' rights, Emirates News Agency reported.
The decision was made by the UAE cabinet during a meeting held here Sunday under the chairmanship of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the country's Vice President and Prime Minister, the report said.
The decision aims to ensure that all legal workers would enjoy full and appropriate benefits relating to their salaries, healthcare and housing, the report added.
The cabinet instructed the ministry of interior and the ministry of labour to work together to impose fines and prison sentences on all those who are found to be employing illegal workers.
