Uber offers insurance coverage for riders

For the first time in Bangladesh, the world's largest ridesharing company Uber launched an insurance programme for its riders and drivers on Wednesday, reports UNB.
The policy will provide both the riders and drivers with free coverage for accidental death, permanent disability and hospitalisation in the event of accidents while on trip using the Uber app, said a press release.
The coverage offers include Tk 0.2 million in the event of accidental death, up to Tk 0.2 million for permanent disability and up to Tk 0.1 million in the event of hospitalisation.
"This announcement is a reflection of our efforts to meaningfully impact and improve the Uber experience," said Prabhjeet Singh, Regional General Manager of Uber.
"We are deeply humbled by the love and support we have received from our rider and drivers in Bangladesh and this announcement is a reiteration of our commitment to them."
As ridesharing concept becomes more popular and embraced by more and more people, this insurance policy will be a pioneer in shaping the future of the industry, he added.
This unique insurance coverage will be offered for free to the drivers as to give them peace of mind while enjoying the flexibility of independent work, it said.
