UGC chairman stresses research at universities

Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof AK Azad Chowdhury Tuesday said that most of the universities are performing as teaching institutions rather than disseminating and cultivating new knowledge through research activities, reports BSS. He made the remarks while addressing a daylong workshop on higher education quality enhancement project (HEQEP) at the UGC auditorium in the city. The HEQEP project involving Tk 6.81 billion was launched to strengthen research activities at various universities. The government of Bangladesh and World Bank are jointly financing the project.
