UGC for launching comparative Bangla courses at varsities

Sunday, 13 March 2011

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has stressed the need for launching comparative courses on Bangla language, literature and other relevant subjects in private universities to help lift the Bengali culture to the international arena, reports UNB. "Although Bangla gets recognition as an international language, the Commission observes with concern that department of Bangla language has been opened only in three to four private universities," said the recent annual report of UGC. After activation of private university act in 1992, more than 50 private universities were established in the country since 2009.
