UK-Bangladeshi team due in city today

Monday, 17 March 2008

A delegation of prominent British-Bangladeshis arrives in the city today (Monday) for a four-day visit with a wide agenda, reports UNB.
The delegation, featuring high-profile and successful individuals from a range of different professional backgrounds, will explore and reflect publicly on their experiences of issues concerning the representation of British-Bangladeshi communities and their roles, responsibilities and identities, including efforts to counter radicalisation.
Their programmes will include various media commitments, TV interviews and participation in a special edition of Radio Today FM's popular interactive 'Khola Mon' programme.
The delegates will also be involved in discussion events with university students in Dhaka and Sylhet, visit a voter-registration centre, and exchange views with influential cultural, civil society and media figures.
The delegation members include popular British TV presenter Konnie Huq, leading barrister with IKBW Chamber Aklaq Choudhury, Chairman of UK-based media organisation Channel S Mahee Jalil, university-lecturer Rupa Huq and businessman Selim Hussain.
The visit is being sponsored by the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), though the delegates are participating independently, on the basis of representing their own personal views and experiences rather than those of the FCO.
