The UK-Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce and Industry (UKBCCI) has called upon the government to create an investor-friendly environment and sought support for foreign businesses with appropriate policies in Bangladesh.
"We have to allow people to bring investment here in Bangladesh and support them with business- friendly policies," UKBCCI president Bajloor Rashid said Thursday in statement.
He made the call while meeting a few top policymakers of the country including President Abdul Hamid, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain to discuss UK-Bangladesh bilateral business, enhanced trade relation and ways to create entrepreneurs in both the countries.
The 10-member visiting delegation of the UKBCCI, a newly-formed British-Bangladeshi trade body, also met British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert W Gibson CMG and Trade Advisor of the EU delegation Zillul Hye Razi as part of series of their meetings. The business body was led by UKBCCI chairman Iqbal Ahmed.
During the meetings, Mr Rashid emphasised the importance of building up a massive network to utilise business potentials of today's world.
"There is a big demand for skilled workforce both in the UK and Bangladesh. We must tap these possibilities with support from such influential policymaking bodies like the EU," said Mr Rashid.
In a statement, Mr Iqbal Ahmed said the UKBCCI was formed as a promoter.
"We have the right connection and immense experience alongside a pool of expertise in different sectors of business," he said.
Ms Rohema Miah, a member of the delegation, thanked the EU delegation for their support and said businesses are growing up everyday without knowing much where to invest and how.
"Our sole aim is to help others grow and provide them with the appropriate right source and connection," she said.
The top policymakers of Bangladesh promised the UKBCCI, comprised of some of the most influential and successful NRB entrepreneurs, every sort of cooperation as and when needed.
Khandker Mosharraf Hossain assured the team of cooperation from the government.
The UK high commissioner appreciated the UKBCCI's primary network building process saying it was on the right track.
"Your endeavour will fill in the gap that exists between the two countries in the current context," said Mr Gibson.
Mr Zillul Hye said people are looking forward to invest in productive ventures but they get confused due to lack of proper knowledge and information. The UKBCCI can play a vital role here through dissemination of data and building up of a rewarding network.
