UK Minister visits FCI (BD) Ltd

The UK Minister of State for International Development, Alan Duncan MP, recently visited FCI (BD) Ltd, to see how British investment in manufacturing is contributing to global trade and helping economies of developing countries such as Bangladesh.
FCI (BD) Ltd is a British Company, which employs 3,500 people and has a turnover of US$ 30m per annum.
The Minister was accompanied by the Acting British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Duncan Norman OBE, Brig. Gen. Jamil Ahmed Khan, Executive Chairman, BEPZA and Mr Chris Austin, Country Representative (Bangladesh) at DFID.
The Minister was received by Mohammed Abdul Matin MBE, Chairman of FCI (BD) Ltd. The Chairman hosted a tour of the factory including a demonstration of work in progress and cutting edge production technologies, where he saw garments from major labels such as M&S and Nike being manufactured.
He was very impressed by the whole operation and also the working conditions, health & safety and the workers welfare. The Minister took time to speak to workers of FCI (BD) Ltd.
The workers spoke of their positive experiences as employees and satisfaction with working conditions. They said that they enjoy working for the company.
The Minister, commented that he was impressed particularly with employee satisfaction when he mentioned, "the workers seem to love you (management)".
