UK reaches out to Khulna students
Wednesday, 25 February 2009
The UK Border Agency of the British High Commission hosted a major seminar on "UK Student Visa" in Khulna city, the first event of its kind, on Tuesday, reports UNB.
British Council also participated in the seminar organised ahead of the launch of a new Points Based System (PBS) for student visa applications, which will be implemented from the end of March 2009.
The seminar is the first in a series of outreach events to explain the benefits and procedures of the new system to potential applicants, which will continue around Bangladesh. Stuart Percival, Head of Immigration Services at the British High Commission in Dhaka, said, "The UK is a terrific place to study and we warmly encourage genuine applications from Khulna and around Bangladesh".
He further said: "Foreign students bring huge economic and cultural benefit to the UK. The new PBS is good news for applicants because it is simpler and more transparent, using objective criterion that potential applicants can check in advance of applying".
"The system also has new sponsorship arrangement, which helps to protect students from exploitation by bogus colleges. We hope that these outreach events will help us to spread the world" he said.
