UK reiterates continued support to CG

Friday, 7 September 2007

The United Kingdom (UK) has reiterated its continued support to the caretaker government (CG) of Bangladesh, reports UNB.
The assurance came when Adviser for Foreign Affais Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury had a meeting with Lord Marc Malloch-Brown, the UK Minister for Asia, Africa and the United Nations (UN) at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London Thursday morning.
In a press release issued by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Lord Marc Malloch-Brown was quoted to have said: "It was a constructive meeting. UK reiterates its continued support to the CG of Bangladesh."
Speaking to the media afterwards, Chowdhury said: "On a personal note it was wonderful to be able to see Lord Marc Malloch-Brown in his new responsibility in Prime Minister Gordon Brown's team. I had known him well when he served with the UN in New York, and I have always admired his keen interest in development issues.
In course of the discussion, they covered a range of international and bilateral issues including those related to climate change on which Bangladesh and the UK are working closely together.
The foreign adviser also apprised the British Minister of the plans and programmes of the CG, and Lord Marc Malloch-Brown expressed his 'understanding, empathy and support'.
Chowdhury was on a transit halt in London on his return from an official visit to the Russian Federation on invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
