UKBCCI urges govt to set up agri-based EPZ

UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce & Industry (UKBCCI) urged the government to set up special agriculture-based Export Processing Zone (EPZ) aiming to facilitate the sea food export, food processing and green farming.
The leaders of UKBCCI sought the support during a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin at his secretariat office on Sunday.
The UKBCCI leaders also showed interest in investing in the Bangladesh National Tea Board, government telecom sector and the education sector to increase the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin urged Bangladeshi businessmen in the UK to invest in the country. This is very important to improve the trade relations between the two countries, he added.
The adviser also urged them to invest in jute products, tourism, pharmaceuticals and telecom sectors. He said the investment environment of Bangladesh is now congenial whereas the government is working to ensure all facilities for investors.
Commerce Secretary (in-charge) Md. Abdur Rahim Khan was present in the meeting. British parliamentarian Rupa Huq, Chairman of the UKBCCI Iqbal Ahmed, UKBCCI President M G Moula, and founder president of the trade body BAJLOOR RASHID also spoke at the event.
