At least eight people have been killed after heavy rain triggered a landslide at a Rohingya refugee camp in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya Upazila, reports bdnews24.com.
Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Mohammed Mizanur Rahman told bdnews24.com that seven of the dead were students and one teacher.
The RRRC, however, could not immediately provide specific information about the number of injured.
Initial reports suggest five people died after the incident occurred at 1:40pm on Wednesday at a madrasa for girls in Rohingya Camp-5-A.
UNB adds: Two children were killed in separate landslides in Chattogram city and Sitakunda upazila on Wednesday amid continuous heavy rainfall.
Sumaiya Akter, 12, a resident of Mayor Goli under Sholokbbahar ward, was killed when a chunk of mud collapsed on a house at the foot of a hill around 1 pm, leaving her trapped.In another incident, Ashraful Islam Tanvir, a 10-month-old boy of Mohin Uddin in Bagan Bari area, died when a big chunk of mud collapsed in Jangal Salimpur area.
