UN appreciates Bangladesh's contribution to peacekeeping

Assistant Secretary General of United Nations (UN) Jane Holl Lute 'highly appreciated' the contribution of Bangladesh in UN peacekeeping missions, reports UNB.
Jane Holl Lute, Officer in Charge of the Department of Field Support created recently at the UN, made the appreciation when she met Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury at the latter's office in the city Sunday.
She also thanked the Adviser for the support the UN has been consistently receiving from Bangladesh.
Lute conveyed the deep sympathy to the Foreign Adviser on behalf of the UN for the heavy losses due to cyclone 'Sidr' and also praised 'the resilience' of the Bangladesh people in facing calamity of such a magnitude and yet are moving forward.
She also reported on her visit to the affected areas, said a Foreign Ministry press release.
Iftekhar Chowdhury assured her that such support would continue saying.. "Bangladeshi authorities look forward to working very closely with her new department".
He also said that there should be appropriate representation of Bangladeshi officials both at the Headquarters and field of the UN in line with her contribution of peacekeepers.
They discussed possibilities of deployment in newer operations and also regional situation.
