UN for freedom of expression
Thursday, 26 February 2015
The United Nations has said it supports freedom of expression and the right for newspapers to exist, which is a big part of democracy in any country. Spokesman for the Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric said this during a press briefing at the UN Headquarters in New York early on Wednesday while responding to a question about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent remarks on The Daily Star. A questioner at the regular briefing in the UN drew attention to the Prime Minister's statement saying legal action should be taken against The Star (Daily Star) for publishing a photograph.
