UN Peacekeeping official to meet PM, attend public lecture

The visiting UN Under-Secretary-General Atul Khare will attend a public lecture titled ‘Challenges of Providing Support to UN Peace Operations’, in Dhaka on Monday. Researchers, academia, media and business community will attend the programme. Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Field Support of the United Nations Peacekeeping, will also meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban at 5pm on Monday, a Foreign Ministry official said on Sunday. Khare arrived in Dhaka on Sunday evening on a three-day visit to discuss peacekeeping cooperation with interlocutors. This is a routine visit the UN Under Secretary General undertakes in different countries, with Bangladesh being the first one. Khare, an Indian origin and Head of the Department of Field Support, will also meet the media before wrapping up his three-day tour.
