Unauthorised NGO doing brisk business in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, June 18: An organisation named Al-Hera Samaj Kalyan Sangstha (AHSKS) is allegedly running brisk banking business in Sirajganj district, without obtaining any permission from Bangladesh Bank, NGO Bureau or even, without any certificate of Social Services Department (SSD).
Sources said Md Tayob Ali of Bozrapur village, a local Jamaat leader and Arabic teacher of Chandongati Alim Senior Madrasa in Ullapara Upazila, launched AHSKS about eight years ago without any approval of the government.
Since the beginning, the organisation has been engaged in various banking activities like deposit collection and loan distribution etc, although these services are allowed only for the government-approved banks or NGOs. So far, it has misappropriated crores of taka from the mass people, sources also said.
Presently, at least 2,000 teachers of different schools, colleges and madrasas of Ullapara, Shahzadpur, Kamarkhanda, Raiganj and Tarash upazilas of the district are trapped by AHSKS. The organisation draws their salary from the banks by the signed cheques, as the loan-takers are bound to pay the instalments of loan.
