Unauthorised SIMs must be deactivated: Tarana

State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim Thursday once again vowed to shut down the unauthorised cellular phone connection in the country, reports BSS.
"Connection of unauthorised SIMs must be shut down to thwart any kind of criminal activities, but before that we will allow time for the cellular phone users to legalise their connections," she said during a sudden spot inspection in the market as part of her campaign to stop the sale of unauthorised SIM.
Tarana made the spot inspection in the capital's Farm Gate area and found unauthorised vendors who are selling Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards of different cell phone operators.
The state minister quizzed several vendors and all were found unauthorised for the sale of SIM card. She also seized few unauthorised and pre-activated SIM cards.
During the inspection, Tarana urged the vendors and people present at the scene not to sell and buy any SIM card without necessary documents.
She informed the Ministry of Home Affairs and Deputy Commissioners of all districts will conduct mobile court to stop the sale of unauthorised SIM cards.
The Posts and Telecommunications Division has already sent letters to the home ministry and deputy commissioners in all districts for conducting drives with the help of security forces.
The state minister said the BTRC is carrying out its activities to stop the sale of unauthorised SIM cards, which would be strengthened further.
The High Court had ordered immediate deactivation of all unregistered mobile SIM cards last year.
