UNDP to provide $6.586m for translucent ballot boxes project

The Government of Bangladesh (GoB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed Wednesday in the city an agreement of $ 6.586 million to implement the project "Translucent Ballot Boxes", reports BSS.

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will provide this fund to the government as grant through the UNDP. The project will be implemented by the Election Commission (EC) from May 2008 to April 2009.

The introduction of the project "Translucent Ballot Boxes" will help country build public confidence in the credibility of the elections by procuring the translucent boxes, training the users and informing the public about their role and use in the election.

Additional Secretary-1, ERD, Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and UNDP Country Director Larry Maramis signed the project document on behalf of their respective sides.

Senior officials of the government, UNDP and CIDA were present on the occasion.
