Unearned earnings of Imams

Thursday, 16 July 2009

The Imam of a mosque is an honourable position in the society. But many Imams remain busy in collecting donations from the ‘Musallis’. Soon after the Jumma prayer, they request the "Musallis" to pass on the donation box to others for their contribution. As if it is more important than the prayer -- often after the prayer, he requests musallis to give money for the mosque. He mentions who has donated what amount to motivate others. Some of the Imams get their salary out of the donations.
They motivate ‘people’ to give money to the mosque which they themselves do not do. Islam does not support saying one thing and doing something else. Imams can not take money given to the mosques. But many Imams take the money donated for the mosque.
Namaj is compulsory for the Muslims. No one can take salary for leading the congregation. We should follow the instructions of the Holy Quran and Hadis. Neither the Holy Quran nor the Hadis supports this.
