Unemployed poor benefiting from 100-day work programme

KURIGRAM, Nov 15: The poverty-stricken unemployed people of Kurigram district are benefiting from the 100-day Work Programme as a total of 2048 projects costing over Tk 255 million are going on in full swing under the programme.
District Relief and Rehabilitation office sources said, most of the poor people of Kurigram district become unemployed during the Bangla months of Ashwin and Kartik every year. They are the victims of Monga (a famine like situation). The present government has created job opportunities for the poor people for 100 days to overcome Monga.
The programme covers 72 unions in all the nine upazilas of the district and will directly benefit over 2.55 million people. Under the programme, 1,251 projects have already begun. Among the people directly involved, 0.9 million are male and 0.37 are females.
The number of projects completed is 73 and the progress of the work is 50.30 per cent. The rest of the work will start soon, sources said.
